Questions about Hayley’s art practice…
-
As an artist I seek to develop works that speak to the innate creativity and child-like wonder that exists within us all. I firmly believe that each person has the potential to be creative and to harness and express their inner wisdom in innovative ways. My inspiration comes from the beauty of nature and my deep love of colours. Through my art, I invite audiences to rediscover the joys of wide-eyed wonderment, expand their awareness, and break free from the trappings of the rational mind.

My work is a labpur of love! There is no specific amount of time, since each piece is unique in its making. Generally my paintings take between 1-2 months, however smaller scale drawings can be completed within a week.
If you have a specific timeframe you'd like your Smilefully work to be completed in, please CONTACT me to discuss your options. I'll always try my best to accommodate your needs :)

Yes, I prioritise using archival materials to ensure my artworks provide long-lasting joy and inspiration. All my paintings are created using premium watercolour or acrylic paints on artist-quality papers or canvas.
As an artist, I am deeply committed to sustainability. By choosing sustainable options such as recycled materials, eco-friendly pigments, and biodegradable packaging, I aim to create art that not only inspires but also respects our natural environment. This commitment reflects my belief in the importance of responsible stewardship and promoting a harmonious relationship between artistry and sustainability.

Excitingly, Smilefully Art offers a variety of framing options for its prints, ensuring you can choose the perfect frame to complement your artwork. When ordering your print simply select your desired frame style and colour from a dropdown box.
Framing options for PAPER prints include:
1. Classic Frame
Nothing beats a classic! This is where we simply place the glass glazing directly on top of your print without spacers or a mat board.
2. Shadow Box Frame
A shadow box frame is a type of frame that leaves a fixed space between the glass glazing and the artwork to create a sense of depth. This design is a good choice if you want to achieve a shadow effect for your prints. It's a tasteful way to add depth and visual interest to a statement piece that you love!
Box frame designs can also protect your print from direct contact with the glass glazing. This will help to ensure it remains well-preserved for long-lasting joy and inspiration!
3. Floated Paper Box Framing
Floating box frames are a stylish take on the box frame, with your print mounted inside the box, rather than fitted edge to edge. This creates the illusion that your print is ‘floating in space’, adding depth and dimension to the display.
At Smilefully Art, prints are floated on a 3-5mm backing. Spacers and a bottom mat board are used to create space between prints and the edge of the box frame.
Framing options for CANVAS prints include:
1. Stretch Only
A ‘stench only’ canvas is another way of saying an ‘unframed’ canvas. Leaving your canvas print unframed can give it a minimalist or ‘raw’ look that suits contemporary designs.
At Smilefully Art, prints are stretched using a premium finger-jointed pine stretcher bar in either 32mm or 38mm heights. All canvases over 1m are braced for extra strength.
2. Stretch and Float Frame
Float frames are designed to create the illusion that your canvas is suspended within the frame, appearing to "float" without touching the edges. This unique framing style adds a touch of elegance to your artwork while maintaining a clean, unobtrusive look. The focus remains squarely on the canvas, enhancing its visual impact.
At Smilefully Art, canvas float frames are sourced locally from FSC-certified suppliers. They are 10mm wide on the face and 55mm deep, and we fit them with a 5mm space between the canvas and the frame, to create a shadow line.
Once your canvas has been stretched, it will be mounted inside its float frame.
3. Float Frame Only
Also known as a tray frame, these frames allow your print to be inserted from the front, which means there is no glass glazing. The edges of the artwork are intentionally left visible, creating a borderless and contemporary look.
