Self Spaces | SIGNAL Textile Installation - 2025
In the summer of 2025, Hayley participated in Self Spaces, a four-day weaving program as part of The City of Melbourne’s SIGNAL Summer program. This workshop explored the concept of self-identity while learning foundational weaving techniques. Guided by Melbourne-based artist Rachael Wood, known for her work as Wunder Weave, Hayley and other participants delved into the meaning of “self spaces” and how weaving could help uncover common threads and discover more about themselves.
Throughout the program, participants created woven works that reflected their unique stories, with options to make either large wall hangings or smaller pieces. The focus was on personal expression and showcasing individuality through weaving.
The workshop culminated in a celebration where the woven works were displayed as the textural home for small ceramic creatures, accompanied by a sonic playlist created by other SIGNAL Summer artists, offering a rich sensory experience to conclude the program.
